Pierluigi Collina is regarded to be one of the best ever referees in the world. He has refereed some of the best games in the world, but according to the former FIFA referee, the goal Ronaldinho scored at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea was easily his best ever.
Ronaldinho is regarded as one of the best players in the world, and he had a memorable three years at Barcelona when he was just unstoppable. Chelsea were up against it when they were drawn against Barcelona back in the 2004-05 season. However, they raced to a 3-0 lead before eventually finishing the match through a narrow goal from John Terry. The match finished 4-2 and is regarded to be one of the best Champions League matches ever.
Now, Pierluigi Collina has said that the goal Ronaldinho scored in the match for Barcelona from a standstill is the best he can ever remember. Ronaldinho was given the ball just outside the penalty area. After trying to start a new trick over Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho, Ronaldinho decided to go for the goal when the ball and the player were in a standstill. Yet, despite all odds, the ball flew into the net much to the amazement of those inside the stadium. Now, Collina has recalled this goal to be the best ever he has seen.
“The goal that impressed me the most was Ronaldinho’s strike at Stamford Bridge. A shot from the edge of the box that no one expected, it surprised everyone. I was lucky enough to officiate matches in magnificent stadiums,” Collina added.
“But I never refereed at the Bombonera. I have watched some of Boca Juniors’ matches and the atmosphere in that stadium is intense. That is a stadium where I would have liked to have refereed,” Collina told Uefa.com.
