Former Barcelona and AC Milan midfielder Ronaldinho has said that he is extremely pleased with the strong start to the season he has made with his new club Atletico Mineiro. The club recently secured the signing of the former Barcelona star Ronaldinho after he had a contract dispute with his former club Flamengo. Prior to his arrival, many expected that he would be another disaster at Atletico Mineiro due to his affinity for partying late in the night. It was one of the main reasons for him not performing in the way many people used to see him for Barcelona.
However, he has turned his career around after performing exceptionally in the opening few matches for Atletico Mineiro. This has in turn helped the club reach the pinnacle of the standings. Despite not being one of the favourites to win the title, Atletico Mineiro are in a position where they can mount a real challenge for the title. Ronaldinho has said that he is extremely surprised at the good start they have made to the season, but wants them to continue this for as long as possible. The Brazilian scored a hat-trick in the match against Figueirense to help Atletico Mineiro win the match 4-3.
“It has been a special night. This proves how strong we are. It’s a fantastic feeling to be leading the competition but now we have to try to maintain this form,” said Ronaldinho after the match. Ronaldinho was regarded as the best player in the world at his peak. However, he was not able to sustain his best form for a long time. The world got to see the best of Ronaldinho for only two years from 2005 to 2007. Since then, he has been a shadow of his former self, but slowly he seems to be recovering his explosive form.
